Composition

Each L contains glucose 278.75 g, sodium chloride 53.44 g, glycine 38.56 g, citric acid monohydrate 3.28 g, potassium phosphate monobasic 25.53 g, potassium citrate 0.75 g.

Description

Oral rehydration therapy containing a balanced mixture of glucose, glycine and electrolytes.

Actions

Nonantibiotic oral supportive treatment. Glucose and glycine are actively absorbed by the intestinal tract causing water and sodium to be absorbed simultaneously with these nutrients, ensuring a high degree of rehydration in scouring and dehydrated dogs and cats.

Indications

Diarrhoea and dehydration in dogs and cats, including those suffering debilitating viral disease (e.g. canine parvovirus or feline panleucopenia); convalescence.

Dosage and Administration

Dilute 1 part concentrate with 11.5 parts water and give orally, following specific treatment for the condition indicated. The following doses are recommended, given 2 to 3 times daily.

Dogs. Miniature: 125 mL; small: 250 mL; medium: 500 mL; large: 750 mL. Many dogs find Lectade palatable and will drink it voluntarily.

Cats. 125 mL. Palatability for cats is variable; Lectade may also be administered orally via dosing syringe.

Continue treatment for 1 to 2 days after the animal appears clinically recovered and is feeding normally.

Note. Where specific disease control (i.e. antibiotic therapy) is indicated, it can be administered in conjunction with Lectade. Keep unused diluted solution in a clean container below 25°C; replace with fresh solution every 24 hours.
